Built as one of the least powerful motorcycles Harley-Davidson has put out, not considering the newer Street models they’ve put our recently, the Sportster really gets a bad rap. I’ve heard things from, “It’s a starter’s bike” to “It’s a girl’s bike” and everything in between. The truth is, the Sportster really embodies what Harley-Davidson used to be before they decided to move into more of a highway touring brand. To consider a +500 lbs bike as a starter bike is a bit of a misnomer honestly, at least when you compare it with the much nimbler and lighter street bikes. One should note though, the power-to-weight ratio on a Sportster is better than just about every Harley out there so it certainly shouldn’t be taken lightly. David Zemla from Burley Brand certainly knows this and that is part of the reason why he picked the Sportster to begin with. Check out what he did with it, certainly not the average Sportster going down the highway.
The Sportster started as an ’03 883 but it quickly started to be modified, mainly using a lot of his own products. Don’t take it from us, take a look at the pictures and you tell us what you think.
