Harley Davidson has been making cruisers for a long time, and has become famous for its traditional-style heavyweight cruisers and touring motorcycles with large engines and expensive prices. In 2014, Harley launched the Street series which included two models: the Street 500 and the Street 750. It was the first time Harley launched an entry-level lightweight cruiser with a small engine at a cheap price.

In 2017, Harley launched another model in the Street series called the Street Rod. The Street Rod shared many similarities with the Street 750 but both provided different riding experiences and designs.

The fuel tank, fairing, and fenders are the only colored parts, while the rest of the motorcycle is covered in a matte black finish. It has mid-mounted footrests and handlebars positioned at arm level. Like most other cruisers, this motorcycle also does not come pre-equipped with saddlebags or crash bars. The Harley Street 750 has a Revolution X, four-stroke liquid-cooled engine with an engine displacement size of 749 cc. It has a bore size of 3.34 in and a stroke size of 2.6 in, capable of delivering a peak torque of 59 Nm @ 4,000 rpm and a horsepower of 53 hp. It has a six-speed transmission system and operates on a belt drive train.

The Harley Street Rod has a high seat height of 30.1 in with a ground clearance of 8.07 in, an overall length of 83.8 in, a wheelbase of 59.44 in, and higher and straight handlebars. These dimensions give this motorcycle a unique seating position and make it suitable for taller riders. It is a lightweight cruiser with an overall weight of 238 kg that is easy to handle. Both motorcycles have similar engines and dimensions but offer different riding experiences. The Street Rod has better ground clearance, a higher seat height, and straight handlebars. Overall, the Street Rod can deliver more torque and horsepower because of its bigger fuel injection bore size. Although both have been discontinued by the company, used Street Rod models are still available and are considered the better option.

Many Harley fans also disliked that these motorcycles did not come with the traditional Harley look.

It can be argued that the Street Rod is a variant of Street 750. After all, both of these motorcycles share many similarities. However, the Street Rod has better torque and horsepower than the Street 750. Also, the Street Rod has the better ground clearance and seat height. Neither motorcycles have saddlebags, crash bars, sissy bars, or any extra accessories pre-installed. Both of these motorcycles have also been discontinued since 2021.
