1. A BRIEF HISTORY OF YAMAHA V-STAR 950 TOURER

Powered by a 942 cc V-twin engine, the V-Star 950 Tourer was introduced by Yamaha in 2009, along with the standard V-Star 950 XVS950, as a member of the Star Series.


Yamaha produced this bike from 2009 to 2018, until it was replaced by V-Star 1100.

1.1 THE STAR SERIES

The Star Motorcycles were launched by Yamaha in 1994 in the United States as a new stand-alone brand for their cruiser bikes. Yamaha continued its production and marketing even after the brand was expanded upon in 2006.


In 2016, Yamaha declared that it would be abandoning the “STAR” label and went on to sell these bikes under the Yamaha name.


The Star Series consists of eight different model families and offers a total of 22 different models to choose from, ranging from the little V-Star 250 to the powerful V-Star 1300.

1.2 THE YAMAHA V-STAR 950 TOURER

The Yamaha V-Star 950 Tourer debuted in 2009, along with the standard version of the V-Star 950. Yamaha’s main objective was to introduce a good entry-level cruiser with a design meant to fulfill the touring purposes.


Both the Tourer and Standard 950 had similar  engineering, both being powered with an air-cooled 942cc V-twin engine.  The only major difference was the addition of new touring features in the V-Star 950 Tourer, including the passenger backrests, saddlebags, and windshield. The V-Star 950 tourer was also a little heavier than the standard V-Star 950.

All the V-Star 950 Tourer models from 2009 to 2018 had almost exactly the same specs. However, small updates were incorporated to the color schemes and designs of the bike over the years to keep a fresh look.
