We aren’t sure whether to call it pressure, but major motorcycle manufacturers are responsible for using clean energy. Without a doubt, electric motorcycles are the future. It has already taken over most of the gas-powered car markets in most parts of the world.

However, the revolution seems to be slow when it comes to the motorcycle industry. Electric motorcycles are not making waves in the market. Motorcyclists don’t seem to let go of gas-powered motorcycles.

Electric-powered motorcycles don’t seem to be attracting motorcyclists. Something is not working with electric motorcycles, whether the sound, power delivery, response, or acceleration.

Despite the slow progress, motorcycle manufacturers aren’t giving up. Most probably because this is the future, they need to work on their electric motorcycle technology today to ensure they carry forward their brand and popularity in the future.

Indeed, we will eventually shift towards electric motorcycle technology. Considering this, one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers, Honda, has made a shocking announcement.

Honda has made it clear that it supports the stance of electrification. The company hasn’t been successful in producing an electric motorcycle for the American motorcycle market. However, the company has announced that it will kill all its gas motorcycles by 2040.

“Honda has not changed its belief that EVs are the most effective solution in small mobility products such as motorcycles and automobiles, and Honda’s electrification target to make EVs and FCEVs represent 100% of its global vehicle sales by 2040 remains unchanged.”

2040 doesn’t seem to be so far. The company only has 16 years to do something revolutionary. Conversely, the announcement has created a spark among its fanbase. It has also made motorcyclists worry and confused about whether they should invest in buying current Honda motorcycles.

This is the first time a major motorcycling brand that happens to be the largest motorcycle manufacturer has declared to go green by 2040. The Japanese manufacturer is all set to launch several electric vehicle (EV) models, including motorcycles, in the next few years.

“Honda will introduce a new model globally in 2024, based on the SC e: Concept, recently exhibited at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2023, which will be followed by the global introductions of “FUN-oriented” models and plug-in electric models in 2025.

In addition, Honda will introduce electric models in various categories such as super sports, naked, offroad, kids’ bikes, and ATVs, accelerating its initiatives to build a full lineup of electric models by taking a proactive approach to introducing a total of more than 30 electric models by 2030.”

Honda and the other Big Four partners, including Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki, have worked on electric automobile technology for years. This collaboration between the Big Four focuses on the challenges the EV industry is facing.

The task is not only to develop sustainable and affordable electric motorcycle technology but also to develop a better charging system and network. Honda is also working on solid-state batteries.

“In 2031 and beyond, Honda will further enhance its competitiveness by investing in establishing a production system and capability on a global basis and further advancing software technologies to maximize the sales of electric motorcycles.”

According to reliable sources, Honda will launch its first-ever electric motorcycle in the coming year. The Honda Mobile Power Pack e, the MPP, will power it. It is an exchangeable lithium-ion battery widely used to power electric motorcycles and scooters.

Switching to EVs and e-bikes benefits the population, environment, and planet. It must be supported in all positive ways. However, the current electric motorcycles available in the market are primarily out of reach for most riders. They are too expensive and less practical to replace gas-powered motorcycles.

This is where Honda can make a difference. The company is well-known for producing affordable motorcycles with superior reliability. Above all, we are not ready for Honda Africa Twin, Gold Wing, Rebel, and Grom to go.

It is too early to say goodbye to screaming engines, loud exhaust notes, clutch action, and gear shifting.
