Packing Luggage for A Camping Motorcycle Trip
Table of Content

Motorcycle camping trips are different than normal motorcycle trips. Room for luggage is even less because this time you have to pack tents, food, and other camping accessories. It is all about efficient packing and managing the essentials. Packing for a motorcycle camping trip for the first time can be intimidating but you don’t need to worry. Today we will let you know of the things that are most needed to make a checklist and start crossing things off.

1. Luggage

Most of the motorcycle bags are water repellent but just to be safe, keep your luggage dry. Waterproofing bags or just plastic bags can do the job. You would need multiple bags because most of the times it is going to fly off after some time. Hard luggage (fiber or aluminum) and soft luggage (leather and textile) are the main options you have. Each of these types has its pros and cons. Hard luggage is safer, requires less maintenance and checkups, is suitable for even off-roading but is expensive with has less space compared to soft luggage.

On the other hand, soft luggage needs more care, has enough storage space, you have to do waterproofing and dust proofing aftermarket is cheaper but less protected and safe. Either one is great and depends on your preferences which one you take. Protecting the leather from water is a demanding task but it looks great while metal panniers don’t need any water protection but in them but don’t look cool. Wait, don’t fill up your bag with clothes, we are not done yet.

2. Food

Packing for camping means space for food, utilities, etc. Keep things small and simple and don’t pack food that needs refrigeration. A plate, fork, knife, spoon or just a multipurpose knife with all these and some bowl in which you can cook are necessary. Quantity and type of food depends on the stay, location, and people. The following are the items I suggest however you can carry others if you want. If you like and have some space bring a cooler with you!

  • Water
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Bread
  • Snacks
  • Dry fruits
  • Trail Mix

3. Gear

During excitement or pressure of packing for camping trips, gear is often overlooked. One motorcycle gear and other camping gear. First, you must wear proper gear according to the weather. During summers wear ventilated and breathable clothes and for winter layer up properly covering every inch of your skin. Textile and leather are two main options with the pros and cons of each. Don’t make the same mistakes as others and pack these touring requirements too.

Now comes camping gear, invest and buy proper camping gear. Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, flashlights, multipurpose knife, an ax, first aid kit, cooking utensils, bug spray and repellent, camping or hiking shoes, and extra blanket are the fundamentals. There are many other things that you can bring but don’t forget these.

4. Tent

There is no camping without tents! Expedition tents, backpacker, and family tents are the options to choose from, you won’t have to worry about selecting from thousands. Time for some tips, get something that you can easily fit into your bag or strap it on. Decide whether you want a tent for two or two tents. It protects your bike while you are away in the world of dreams. The family tent is another option you may consider.

Expedition tents are a relatively newer option. I would suggest these tents as they have parking space in them for motorcycle and sleeping place for two. Backpacker tents are smaller but also lightweight and easy to pack.
