Template Mounting Method

To begin, the fit and finish of the bags are top notch, I couldn’t have been happier with them. There were, however, some glitches in the installation instructions. The copy that came with my bags was printed in color on glossy paper which, inexplicably, made the details impossible to see clearly. My suggestion would be to print them in black and white.
Relocating the rear turn signals was easy enough with exception of the fact that the furnished hardware would only work if your license plate mount was exactly vertical rather than the 30 degree forward slant of my stock mount has. This was easily remedied with the purchase of some 30 degree beveled spacers so the turn signal bracket could be mounted vertically.
Now, on to the bags themselves. Neither the top or bottom surfaces of the bags are straight or parallel with each other which makes the alignment difficult. The chrome Viking logo plate is what I settled on, mounting the bags such that this strip was parallel with the exhaust pipes and the look is dead on. I made a cardboard template of the back of the bag. Sitting the bag on a level surface, I made sure the logo plate was level and drew a corresponding level line on the back template. By holding the template in place on the bike, checking the level line to the line of the pipes, I was able to accurately locate the mounting bolt holes on the template. The hole locations were transferred to the bag, holes drilled, brackets mounted to it and installed on the bike. By using the back side of the template, the holes were located on the remaining bag in a snap.
Overall, the installation was not that difficult. Working by myself, the template method really paid off.
