1. Introduction:
Over the past couple of years, the percentage of female motorcycle owners worldwide has increased, but it is still less than half the percentage of male motorcycle riders. In 2003, the percentage was around 3.6%. In 2015, the number increased to 14%. And by the last survey in 2018, the percentage of female motorcycle owners worldwide was 20%.
Although the figures show a steady increase in female motorcycle owners, it is still very low in the context of the global motorcyclist population. There are multiple reasons why there are so few female motorcycle riders as discussed below:
1.1 Losing Interest in Motorcycle Riding:
That is a common issue among male and female riders. After PURCHASING A MOTORCYCLE and using it for some time, some riders begin to lose interest in motorcycle riding. This is either due to boredom or mechanical issues that riders don’t want to be bothered repairing.According to a local survey conducted by women from Atlanta, some female riders quit after a certain age, usually after the age of 30 or 35. Most of them start focusing on other things like work, home, etc. losing interest in motorcycle riding. Female riders that start riding at a younger age tend to stick with their passion longer.
1.2 Children & Family Life:
Lots of women riders quit riding because of their children and family life. Family life keeps them very busy, not giving them time to pursue hobbies. After the children the main focus of the women goes towards the children to feed them, and take care of them, even when the children are a bit older the focus of the women goes towards the study of children, and when the children get old enough to take care of themselves, at that time the women have reached to their 40s or 50s which becomes difficult for them to start riding again.
1.3 Getting the Wrong Motorcycle:
Choosing the RIGHT MOTORCYCLE can help women find and keep an interest in motorcycle riding. According to the important requirements of female riders that are discussed below, every motorcycle can not be a good motorcycle for every woman, Suzuki Hayabusa and Triumph Bonneville are great motorcycles but for a female rider, these motorcycles are very difficult to handle because more speed and heavyweight of the motorcycles respectively.
If any female rider chooses a motorcycle that is difficult to handle for her in terms of weight, speed, power, or maintenance. They might lose their interest in riding the motorcycles although in such cases the problem is all about choosing the wrong motorcycle.
In recent years, some companies have made lightweight and middleweight motorcycles for BEGINNERS, FEMALE RIDERS, and SHORTER RIDERS. This has provided a variety of options for female riders.
2. Reasons Why Women Ride Motorcycles:
2.1 Fun & Recreation:
Riding a beloved motorcycle to a scenic destination is a pleasurable experience. Many passionate female riders love these joyful moments while riding their motorcycles.
2.2 Sense of Freedom:
While riding a motorcycle, riders are closest to nature and experience a sense of freedom. Riders feel most free under the open sky while riding over long roads. Every year, both male and female riders travel over hilly places across the country to go on ADVENTURES, go on CAMPING trips, or just go on long pleasure cruises.
3. Important Things Women Want in a Motorcycle:
3.1 Comfort:
The most important factor every female rider looks at when getting a motorcycle is whether it is comfortable or not. A motorcycle’s comfort depends on the SEATING POSITION, HANDLEBAR POSITION, footrest position, vibrations, and throttle. All of these factors combined help to provide a comfortable riding experience.
3.2 Easy to Handle:
Another feature female riders should look for in a motorcycle is how easy it is to handle or having enough engine power that allows for easy control whether riding at fast or slow speed.
